A wild Flamingo takes flight from Snake Bight in Everglades National Park. Though often thought of a symbol of Florida, Flamingos are rare in the sunshine state as their populations were decimated by hunting in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Thanks to a tracking tag on this birds leg, researchers discovered it was once part of a flock from the Yucatan Peninsula. It's thought it was blown off course during a tropical storm and ended up in the Everglades. Everglades
