Pipe Shrine House , Mesa Verde National Park
The Pipe Shrine House in Mesa Verde National Park is part of the Far View Sites which were one of the most densely populated areas of the mesa from A.D. 900 to about A.D. 1300. Nearly 50 villages have been identified within a half square mile area once inhabited by Ancestral Puebloans. This village represents the transition from lower elevation pit houses to the higher elevation cliff dwellings the park is famous for. The spiral brick seen in this composite photograph is a popular challenge for tourists to find among the thousands of bricks at the site. Created while serving as Artist-In-Residence at Mesa Verde National Park.
