The Tampa-to-Miami Tamiami Trail built more than 80 years ago, by Miami entrepreneur Frank Jaudon has acted as a dam, causing hundreds of thousands of acres of land south of the road to dry out and sink as well as causing a hinderance to animal corridors between Big Cypress National Preserve and Everglades National Park. But now that construction has begun on a series of elevated roadways called the Everglades Skyway, hopes are that traditional wildlife thouroughfares will be restored along with better water flow for the river of grass. .Photo by James Branaman
